Animal Farm Q8.:)
Entry of Choice
I decided to draw the animal farm in my perspective. First, Napoleon is the pig and I only drew the sheep because I felt like no animal actually wanted to follow Napopleon as a leader. Also I put yellow "streams" out the pig so that the viewer only notices the pig. Napoleon was the leader and he was the one in charge so I decided the yellow will make him pop out. Lastly, I drew the black sky for several reasons. First of all, when you an animal farm, you imagine it to be a peaceful setting but in this novel it wasnt. Second, the color of black shows a mood of dullness and darkness.

Are there any settings in this novel that you have found to be beautiful? Or disturbing? Or memorable? Describe these settings and comment on why they were meaningful to you.
The main setting of the whole novel was taken in the animal farm. At first, when I heard the book “Animal Farm”, I imagined the book to be about cute cuddly animals. But as I read more and got more in depth with the storyline, I realized that the setting of the animal farm symbolizes something else than the actual farm. It symbolizes a country being under control of a leader. This is meaningful because we need to realize that power has an effect on everyone. The farm itself held a lot of animals which can relate to a country or any kind of human society. The farm might have started as a hopeful place but as time past, and as more Napoleon got the attention with his power, the farm changed in to a new place. A new place that can be looked in the point of view of it being a “communist”, “capitalist” or “socialist”.

. Are there are any current situations in the world that relate to the novel? What are they, and how do they relate? Does the novel shed any light on how current situations could be resolved or "fixed"?
Today, there are a lot of communist countries left such as China and North Korea. The countries that are communists have freedom of choice of words but to follow the leader. Not to say that the leaders of those countries are bad, some people might disagree with the leaders but again, they have no other choice but to do what they are told to do. This relates to this novel because some of the animals might of really not wanted to follow Napoleon. By following the leader, it might be a benefit to the followers and at the same time it might not be good for the followers but good to the leader. I think a power of a country, in this case, a farm, shouldn’t all be given to one person. Or if it is, it should be well thought about.

Animal Farm Q5.:)
5. What is the mood of this novel? Do you find this novel saddens you in any way? Why?
The mood of this novel, Animal Farm was overly dull. The story itself was interesting but there was no actual mood of it being happy or enjoyable. In the first chapter, old major shares the dream he had which leads to the goal of their lives in the animal farm. However, after he dies, everything is changed and every animal is changed through Napoleons power. Not only do they become more self-centered, they risk others lives to gain more power. No one could have guessed in the first chapter that the whole mood of “hope” was going to be changed by a simple temptation of power. I think in some ways, this novel saddens me. It made me realize that I sometimes use the power I have in a bad way. The power itself might not be big as what Napoleon had but I still should take good responsibility for all my acts.

Honestly, we all wish that one day; this world would be a quiet peaceful place. However, I honestly don’t think that will be possible. We all say that all men are equal but technically saying, that’s not true. We all have different social statuses and we all stand in different places in this community. Even if we are treated all the same, there always going to be someone, a leader, who has more power than others. When you are given power, its hard to misuse it no matter how hard you try, that’s just the way humans are. All authors have a reason of writing a novel; they want to share something with the readers. George Orwell wanted to show the readers that our community, Earth, is filled with people like Napoleon maybe in the past or maybe in present days or maybe even later in the future. Power corrupts not only the leader but the followers too. It can even ruin or destroy the unity of a country, and as a whole world.

"Somehow it seemed as though the farm had grown richer without making the animals themselves any richer- except, of course, for the pigs and the dogs."
I think this passage is really meaningful because it sums out the whole novel and at the same time, it relates to us as humans. Every single day, the animal farm grew bigger with greed and the animals became more human-like. In this case, becoming more like humans isn’t a good thing but a saying that they are growing with power in a bad way. As the farm is growing, the animals individually aren’t. All they are doing is getting blinded by Napoleon’s power that they don’t see the actual truth of what the power is doing to them. Even though, the animals aren’t getting any richer, the pigs and dogs are. This doesn’t actually mean that they are getting “richer” and better. It means that they are getting more self-conceited as the days go by. For the pigs and the dogs, they came far way lying to themselves about their true identity and power use.

There are many characters in this novel however I think the most important ones are Napoleon and Snowball. First of all, I honestly don’t like Napoleon in this novel. He is a self-conceited pig who doesn’t actually care about the animals in the farm but only cares about himself. He never actually had a time where he took time to consider or listen to the other animal’s thoughts. Also he “educated” the puppies not for their good but so that he can outgrow his power with them and take charge. At the end, I don’t think he even realized what he did to the farm. He was blinded by his own power and temptations of growing bigger and bigger. On the other side, Snowball was a total opposite character of Napoleon. He truly cared about the animals and only focused on what he can do to improve the animal farm and achieve the goal/dream that the old major had in mind. Animal Farm Q1.:)
What is the major theme of this novel? Why is this theme important?
Honestly for me, I found the theme for the novel, Aniaml Farm hard to understand. To actually find the true theme, I looked at the whole book and the characters more in depth. I thought about about "what" each animals ( characters) were a symbol of. It came down to one main point, the theme is changed by the way you look at the story. It can be read as an innocent novel with animals while at the same time it can be read as a novel about the misusage of political power. In all society, all countries, there are leaders who uses their power for good, to do right for the people while there are leaders who abuses the fact they have the power.
This theme is important for us teenagers because we need to realize that when we have the opportunity to have power, we should use it for good.
